UAE resume format for Dubai and Abu Dhabi
Build a UAE resume in Arabic or English with honest current evidence, clear sections, and precise limits on what the official job portal supports.
A UAE resume should be honest, current, and written for a real vacancy. That is the core supported by the UAE Government portal. The portal does not make A4, one to two pages, reverse chronology, a photograph, or a commercial template mandatory across Dubai, Abu Dhabi, or the wider UAE.
The resume may be Arabic ar-AE or English en-AE. The vacancy and employer context choose the language, not the city or the site interface.
1. Choose Arabic or English from the vacancy
Use Arabic when the posting, portal, clients, and daily communication require it. Use English when the vacancy or role operates in English. If the signals differ, follow explicit employer instructions and choose the language in which you can state evidence accurately.
Keep separate files when you apply in both languages. Employers, titles, dates, results, qualifications, tools, and language levels must stay aligned even when the sentences are rewritten naturally.
2. Make the CV current
Check your email, phone, city-level location, portfolio, and professional links. Update responsibilities only after confirming their scope. Remove an outdated objective or weak project when it no longer supports the target role.
If you maintain Arabic and English versions, update both in the same session so an old file does not contradict the new application.
3. Use a readable structure
A conservative starting point is:
- name and professional contact details;
- targeted professional summary;
- reverse-chronological experience;
- education;
- skills and languages;
- relevant certificates or projects.
This is a product recommendation, not a UAE Government sequence. Graduates may lead with education and projects. Creative roles may need a portfolio. Researchers may need publications.
4. Write evidence rather than adjectives
Add numbers only when you have a real source and can explain your contribution. Do not turn a team result into an individual result or support work into leadership.
5. Keep portal fields separate from CV content
An application form may ask for nationality, location, residence status, or work authorization. Those are different concepts, and a portal field is not automatically a recommendation to place the same information in every PDF.
Do not automatically add a photograph, birth date, nationality, marital status, identity/passport details, full address, salary, or visa documents.
6. Test the file and the contact
Follow the requested extension and size. Search and copy a line containing mixed Arabic and Latin text from the final file. Before sending personal data, independently open the employer's official site and compare its domain with the sender's email.
Read the resume format by country guide and PDF versus Word comparison before sending the final file.
Product recommendation and limits
Boost My Resume recommends A4, Gregorian dates, reverse chronology, clear headings, and a tested single-column option. These are conservative defaults, not a UAE Government format, legal requirement, or hiring guarantee.

Common questions
Is there one official UAE resume format?
The UAE Government portal reviewed here recommends an honest, updated CV and a strong cover letter. It does not establish one mandatory private-sector template, section order, or page count.
Should a Dubai or Abu Dhabi CV be in English?
Not automatically. Follow the vacancy, employer, portal, customers, and working language. Arabic and English are both complete UAE application paths.
How long should a UAE CV be?
The official page does not set one length. Our conservative default is one page for limited experience and two when verified evidence genuinely needs the space.
Should I add a cover letter?
The portal recommends a strong cover letter, but the actual vacancy and upload fields decide whether it is requested. Do not attach a generic letter that merely repeats the CV.
